Summer FUN in Boston… Or how to keep cool when the temps approach 100!

Looking for an escape from the summer’s heat and humidity but can’t get to the ocean? Consider heading to one of several local community swimming pools. Maintained by the state Department of Conservation and Recreation, the pools provide a close-by opportunity for an afternoon of sun, summer reading, and a refreshing dip. Best of all, they’re free! Below are three that are easy to get to by public transportation.

Reilly Memorial Swimming Pool

355 Chestnut Hill Avenue
Cleveland Circle
Brighton

The pool is open June 23 through August 26, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Take theMBTA Green Line B trolley to the Chestnut Hill Avenue stop, the C trolley to the Cleveland Circle stop, or the D trolley to the Reservoir stop. Call 617-277-7822 or617-698-1802 for more information.

Francis J. McCrehan Memorial Swimming and Wading Pool

359 Rindge Avenue
Cambridge

The pool is open June 23 through September 3, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Take the MBTA Red Line to the Alewife stop. Call 617-354-9154 or 617-576-2081 for more information.

Veterans Memorial Swimming and Wading Pool

719 Memorial Drive
Cambridge

The pool is open June 23 through August 26, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Cross the BU Bridge toward Cambridge and take a left on Memorial Drive. The pool is roughly four blocks down on the right. Call 617-354-9381 for more information.
