Living with Guns by Craig R. Whitney. As we again approach the issue of gun control, this book brings a reasoned calm to the debate. There has been a flurry of activity in the various arenas of government this past month relating to gun control. There are many current pieces of legislation before Congress which include the Sandy Hook Elementary School Violence Reduction Act introduced by Sen. Reid and the NRA Members’ Gun Safety Act of 2013 introduced by Rep. Moran. There were recently hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee to discuss possible responses to gun violence. On Jan. 16, the President used the tools of the executive branch to introduce a gun control plan that increased emphasis on public health research into gun violence, improving criminal background checks, and tracing firearms, among other actions. Mayor Bloomberg has put together a coalition of city mayors to push for gun regulation.
